Your Voice Matters

Your busy streets and mailboxes are filled with voter pamphlets, ballots and mailers from all candidates.  Our neighborhoods and roads are lined with yardsigns from various candidates, hoping to get their voices heard by all.  It's that time of year when voting matters and just one person can make that difference on the ballot box.  Register to vote, mail those ballots in and let's make a change for new faces who can make a difference and care about you.

It's time to see how changes can be made so people are treated fairly, candidates are qualified for the position and willing to work with as a steward for the people. https://jesse-tam.blogspot.com/

Housing Market is Slowing

The housing market slowed with increasted mortgage rates in the Puget Sound regions with Seattle, Bellevue will have more homes to chose from.  Jesse Tam, the eastside's multiple and over asking prices are leveling with some homes on the market taking long to sale. Inventory of single family homes and condominiums across the 26 counties served by Northwest MLS has not exceeded two months since January 2019 when there was 2.3 months of supply.

The median price on last month’s closed sales of single family homes and condos increased 6.1% from a year ago, rising from $589,000 to $625,000. For single family homes only (excluding condos), prices jumped about 6.6% and condo prices gained more than 8.6%.   Active listings have nearly doubled from a year ago, jumping from 7,948 offerings of single family homes and condos to 15,381 (up 93.5%). The addition of 11,805 new listings during the month contributed to the boost. Compared to June, the selection expanded by 1,976 listings (up 14.7%). Evidence of slower activity appears in the sales figures. Pending sales retreated about 24% from a year ago, dropping from 11,567 to 8,775 mutually accepted offers. The NWMLS report shows a nearly 30% yearover-year decrease in closed sales (declining from 10,919 closings to 7,645). Despite fewer sales, prices still rose, but at a slower rate.

Explore the Trails

It's not too early to start planning for outdoor activities and leave greater Seattle's urban life to discover the various trails on the eastside. Jesse Tam, no problem to reach the trailheads without a car.  Did you know Metro created a program Trailhead Direct as a seasonal service to designated trails to help elevate congrestion and parking as well as those who do not drive. Check out these places on your next trip to help you plan https://trailheaddirect.org/

Here are some things to remember when you ride the bus or take public transportation:
  • Masks are required onboard and while waiting for your Trailhead Direct vehicle at transit centers.
  • Please ensure you wear your mask over your nose and mouth and keep it on for the duration of your trip. Help us protect the vehicle operators and one another while en route to the trailheads.
  • Respect the passenger limits onboard Trailhead Direct vehicles, and please observe the signage onboard to block seats to support physical distancing.
  • King County Metro is disinfecting vehicles daily, and has installed safety partitions.
Plan ahead and check the schedules for updates and changes.  Take warm clothing as weather can change, water to stay hydrated and keep the surrounding area and trails clean.  Pack out everything that you bring in.  https://jesse-tam.blogspot.com/ Thanks for reading, relax and enjoy the trails.

Monday Morning Reminder

The beginning of a new year 2022 brings renewal and new pages to start looking ahead.  It makes us appreciate what difficult pandemic the past 2 years limited travel, friends, family....Jesse Tam, here's to challenges for us to strive ahead and be flexible with each daily task and flow.  A moment to reflect on the past and things accomplished, ideas and things on the bucklet list continues...

Monday morning make a new week to get things done and handle whatever happens.  How will you handle each situation can make a difference in keeping a positive attitude or learning ffrom the experience.
There will always be a wish lists and a list where we want to put way down to the bottom and hope it will be delayed.  We may not like to do some task, but it 's how we go about taking care of the situation.
Remember to stay focus, you can handle whatever this week throws at you.

Be Involved, Show Gratitude

November is the month of gratitude no matter where you live. Jesse Tam, the pandemic is affecting many of the businesses locally, work places, families and friends. Many of us are finally able to venture out with friends and bring back some live activities in our local communities. It's a time to reflect on giving thanks and the gratitute we can express towards those involved in our daily lives.

Gratitude can help and improve our overall level of health and decrease stress in our well being.  It's an active process which we can all learn and practice with very simple things: Start a gratitude journal. Start a gratitude journal.

Share gratitude with other people, write a note and smile to those who pack grocery, delivery people, small and local businesses. Show your gratitude and appreciation by giving back to the community. Act without reward, pay it forward.

Show gratitude to others by showing up and being present. Clear your mind and put the phone away when you are with people. Be grateful for what you already have, grow it and spread it. Stay healthly and safe this holiday season, Jesse https://jesse-tam.blogspot.com/

Sunset Sky

Clouds come floating into life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to the sunset sky.  Every sunset brings the promise of a new dawn.  Jesse Tam, an amazing time to step back and away from the hustle and bustle of daily tasks.  A view at Long Beach to explore the most beautiful and opportunity to reset.  The horizon changes but the sun does not.

Get outside.  Watch the sunrise. Watch the sunset. How does that make you feel?  There's something special and good feeling when you hear the sound of ocean waves and the breeze.

"Sunsets are proof that no matter what happens, every day can end beautifully."

Seattle Cruise Season Returns

The long awaited return to cruising has arrived beginning in July from  Seattle to the beautiful  Alaska  with Royal Carribean, Holland American and serveral other cruise lines.  Jesse Tam, it make a big impact for local businesses and tourism for the downtown core and economic recovery for our region.  We've all waited for the return to everyday activities and being able to get out to dining indoors and return to attending events in person.  We are ready to transition to a road of back to work in person, spending time with others and more travel ahead.

It's important to still remain cautious with indoor activties, large crowds and gatherings outside your familiar group.  Recommendations to continue with wearing face coverings indoor in public places while dining or shopping and wash hands frequently.

"The Port of Seattle is expecting its first cruise ship arrival June 29th, with Royal Caribbean International’s Ovation of the Seas docking at Terminal 91 to ready the ship for the season. Pending U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) authorization of cruise lines’ applications for a Conditional Sailing Certificate, passenger cruises are expected to start July 19th with Royal Caribbean International’s Serenade of the Seas.

Prior to sailing, cruise lines must submit to the CDC operational plans to prevent the spread of COVID or respond to any documented positive cases. The seven major brands calling the Port of Seattle will resume cruises with eight vessels, with over 80 trips scheduled, pending CDC authorization. To make the 2021 season possible, public health officials, cruise lines, and federal leaders addressed or reached major milestones, including temporary federal authorization to sail directly from Seattle to Alaska without a stop in Canada."

People Make a Difference

It's the little things that make big days.  Jesse Tam, here's a thought and quote to think about.  People make a difference and we remember the simple things.  Make yourself the best and the rest will follow.

Healthly Changes

Stay healthly is always a challenge with busy work schedules and daily chores.  Let's begin with small steps.  Jesse Tam, make a list of things on the changes you would like to see in a month of two for results and go forward.  It might be fun to include other members in your family or friends in the challenge to start a new healthly life goal.  How about creating an exercise workout plan, taking out sweets and eating more fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts and limit the carbs in your diet.

We are all staying indoors and working from home instead of spending time in the gym or social gathering.  Stand when you are working on the computer instead of sitting and get some movement into your time to remain active.  Take brisk walks in between your meetings or lunch break and get some fresh air to relax.  Walk up and down stair if you are unable to get outdoors due to weather for moderate fitness and stay moving.  Yard work, outdoor chores, housing cleaning are all ways to exercise and burn calories.

Look for healthly receipes to prepare meals at home together.  Select snacks and limit the sugar and high salt items such as chips or candy.  Try and use yogurt, veggies, fruits, nuts, oats and unprocess items for choices instead.  It takes awhile to make the change, but continue with the progress and you will see the results and changes in your eating habits.  https://jesse-tam.blogspot.com/

Season of Gatherings

This season of gatherings during the holidays are rather different without friends or family celebrations this year in 2020.  Jesse Tam, during this time of year many of us are volunteering at the foodbanks or helping our communities or seniors who may need assistances.  Thanksgiving time for many were spent with fewer people traveing to visiting families local or far away.  Our meals were shared with just a few or possibly staying at home as we try to keep healthly from the challenging virus.

The challenges are ways for us to keep awake and make changes to new ideas and adjust to face what lies ahead.  Changes can become opportunities. Take time to gather new insight, learn new skills and refresh ideas for times ahead.  Seasons will come and go; therefore, all of us must make adjustments to seek out new things and see things with an open mind.

Stay in contact with those friends and families whom you may not have reached out to for years.  It's a different way for each of us to reflect on values, work life changes and others.   A new year ahead for 2021, Jesse  https://jesset28.blogspot.com/   Here to a December to remember, keep plugging ahead.

Time for a Restart

How we all hope that this new month of September would be a restart of a normal time as students and families prepare for college, back to school and work schedule.  Jesse Tam, what changes we must make today to have mostly online courses and schooling beginning from home this fall.  Teachers and staff are making the necessary adjustments to prepare this year of education in a very different manner.  The distractions will be a part of the regular day as we all must spend more hours with working from home to maintain distancing and health safety for our families and the virus spread in our local communities.

A good education is the foundation for the future.  Learning is a process that continues over daily as we find new knowledge either exploring through the internet, meeting people, interaction with family, friends and so much more.  Everyday can be a restart if you set a postive focus and mindset.  Create your own skills by observing, listening, mentoring, reading or listen to pod cast, do something different and explore.

Almost everything will restart itself if you unplug it for awhile.  Reboot yourself, take care of your health, eat and maintain regular outdoor activities, exercise and set aside quiet time to relax your mind.  Change can be a slow process but it can be reached with constant effort.  The classes online learning will be manged by many and some will take a longer time to process the new technology.  It may be frustration without groug interaction and help, but keep striving to continue and reach out for help for others.  Change is also a learning process for many of us...

Rewire Your Brain

How have you been filling your days while we continue with social distancing and no group meeting?  We've started by being creative with virtual meetings, conferences and more, Jesse Tam.  Marjority of our contacts with professional assocations have continue with scheduling Zoom or conferences and courses online. It's sure easier to login on your computer and not hve to fight traffic or parking if you're working from home. Our rotary convention this year planned for Honolulu was cancelled and all events and speakers are virtual.  Time zone differenes in Chicago could mean waking up at 6 am to hear opening ceremony and speakers.

It's time for everyone to learn to adjust and change with our daily lives in work from home, limited groups, crowds, shopping, dining and more.  Make the most of what is available and show kindness to your surroundings.  It could be a challenging time for many of your local businesses, friends, co-worker and organizations. What changes can you make by reflecting on your time away from others?  Let's make a difference in our community and support each other and the local business.

Some suggestions for shopping local, order take-out when you are able and offer to help those in your neighborhood.  It's amazing what we can do to make the days better with an act of kindess or just a brief greeting or smile at the grocery store, etc.  Keep postive and spread the vibe....gratitude.

Thanks for staying connected, Jesse  https://jesse-tam.blogspot.com/

Relax and Refresh Outdoors

The time spent working remote from home limits contact with our friends, family and co-workers. Jesse Tam, maintain regular exercise and schedule time to relax with daily breaks. Find a new skill such as cooking together, new language or spruce up your music skills. Walking near your neighborhood and maintain safe distancing helps during this period.

Cycling is great for getting around and rewarding as a sense of independence and accomplishment.  First become familiar with the rules and regulations of your city for cyclists, it's a fantastic way to see places and travel. There are many bike trails to explore from Burke Gilman, along Lake Washington or cross the bridge on I-90 and more...

Beautiful Mt Rainer is always a great place to visit.  Check the website for reopening and plan ahead for your trip and spend the day while you're there.

Places to Go, Plan Ahead

It's was a long gray winter in Seattle this year with a record sixty plus days with cloudy skies and no sunshine. Jesse Tam, now the welcoming sun and spring is just around the corner.  Spring break for the school kids and college will soon be here.  One of the interest places to see is the crashing waves year round along the Pacific Northwests coasts and beaches.

Take a drive to Long Beach, WA aka as the longest stretch of beach.  It's a year round places for the relaxation and exploring new nature trails.  Rent a bike, stroll or jog along the boardwalk trails with grassy path.  Enjoy a day or spend the weekend where you can go clamming ro razor clams, crabbing for Dungeness crab or fishing.  Wilapa Bay is renowned for oysters and a short drive north for a visit.

There are many shops in town to stroll along after a day at the beach for souvenirs, have an ice cream or ride some carnival rides. Pacific Avenue is where more of the action is to explore, have a great day. Jesse  https://jessetam.wordpress.com/

" Long Beach Peninsula. Colorful kites are on show at the World Kite Museum. The Discovery Trail traces a coastal route taken by explorers Lewis and Clark. Our Fast Pace World

Kind words do not cost much. Oh, how quickly we become in this fast pace world and forget to take the time to realize what really matters. Jesse Tam, quotes to ponder. There are always another point of view, be open to listen and observe when others speak.  Be open to others who have different opinions. There are lists on the calendar as we start the new year 2020.  What are the things to see, accomplish, goals and how can they be reached.

Here are quotes to ponder and reflect.

Today I bent the truth to be kind, and I have no regret, for I am far surer of what is kind than I am of what is true. Robert Brault
Be nice to strangers. Be nice even when it doesn’t matter. Sam Altman
Extend yourself in kindness to other human being wherever you can. Oprah Winfrey
There is no duty more obligatory than the repayment of kindness. Ciceo
When words are both true and kind, they can change the world. Buddha
To practice five things under all circumstances constitutes perfect virtue; these five are gravity, generosity of soul, sincerity, earnestness, and kindness. Confucius
A word of kindness is seldom spoken in vain, while witty sayings are as easily lost as the pearls slipping from a broken string. George Dennison Prentice
It really shocks me when I encounter people who think kindness doesn’t matter. Because I think it’s pretty much the only thing that matters. Josh Radnor

The Days of Summer

The summer days are slowly bringing cooler temperatures to the Puget Sound region as August is already here. Seattle summers are amazing, Jesse Tam with cruise ships heading to Alaska and fantastic outdoor venues for all ages. There were several days with skies filled with smoke and haze creating conditions which are unhealthy to go outdoors. We missed the clear blue skies and views of Mt Rainier and Olympic Mountains across the Seattle landscapes.

It's time for educators and students to prepare for the new school year ahead.  Enjoying the remaining summer heat and outdoors before the rainy season starts again.  Baseball is in full swing and the Seattle Seahawks are in preseason games.  Farmers markets are another great feature during the warm weather as we enjoy the fresh local produce and produces from our region.

Seafair activities with the parades, Blue Angels, Hydro races and local community events are the highlights of our great summers.  The last few months are filled with many outdoor concerts, races and local events such as movie in the park, street fairs and many more...time to relax and get ready for September.

Visiting the Quad

Visiting the Quad, Jesse.Tam.  The annual site at the University of Washington quad is expected to draw another year of large crowds for the annual bloom of the Cherry blossoms.  The cooler temperature delayed the blooming to occur later in the year. Plan to make a visit during the peak bloom which will last from 16 to 21 days.

This years blooms started on March 19th and will continue depending on the weather.  The iconic Cherry trees are in good health and are 80 years old.  Weekend is an extremely busy and difficult to park with visitors.  Wear comfortable walking shoes and enjoy the variety of colors on campus.

"There are more than 250 cherry trees of different varieties blooming at different times.  Large trees near Gerberding Hall with flowers week after the Quad trees, and between Gerberding Hall and the Drumheller Fountain a group of young trees will also blossom a little later.

Visitors are asked to treat all of the trees with respect by not pulling on the blooming branches or climbing the tree limbs.  The UW is raising money to help care for and eventually replace the aging Quad cherry trees."       https://www.washington.edu/news/2018/02/23/university-of-washington-cherry-blossom-watch-2018/

It's always a spectacular tradition for my friends to see the blooms and welcome spring.  Thank for ready, stay connected. Jesse https://jesse-tam.blogspot.com/

Unique Farmers Market

A fun place to stroll through the public farmers market and see the newly renovated Seattle's Pike Place Market -Jesse Tam. The fresh flowers daily, food stalls filled with fish, seafood, vegetable from the local market and crafts are just a few things.  There are many ideas and talented handmade crafts for the holidays and stocking ideas.  Don't go away hungry, try out the eateries and local shops across the street too

Looking for unique shops and experience, there are three levels to the market if time isn't an issue. It's a fantastic place to bring friends, out-of-town visitors and enjoy the market year round.  Stop and sample some of the local items, see the fish toss and cheer on the crowd.  Bundle up in winter and warm up with a hot beverage and snack.

There are weekly demonstrations and events for all age groups.  Enjoy the waterfront and view during your visit.  Fresh produce and seafood are wonderful menu items to take home or shipped to your destination.  Enjoy the music, relax and don't miss the flower vendors.

Washington State Apple Harvest

Washington apples and trade has a large impact for our state. Jesse Tam, they are known around the nation and the world. Apples are a staple, they might grow in any backyard or garden. There are varieties in our region, but the most majority of the crop in Washington State are - Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Gala, Fuji, Granny Smith, Braeburn, Honeycrisps and Cameo.

The apple season starts in mid-August and continues into fall. Each year, more than 100 million apple boxes are harvested and each box weighs about 40 pounds.  The harvest each year for Washington apples you purchase are picked by hand.  There are no harvesting machines for the annual crops.

Red Delicious made up three quarters of Washington's apple crop.

Washington designated apple as it's state fruit in 1989.  Most of the region's apples come from the Wenatchee Valley.  Our state produces almost 60 percent of the nation's supply of apples and have the best apple picking in the country. Take a day trip to Wentachee Valley near Leavenworth is a great way to spend a weekend.

There are several orchards near Seattle with large varieties of apple for those you enjoy the u pick. Plan ahead for dates and availability. Thanks for reading Jesse https://jesse-tam.blogspot.com/

Clear skies are expected in the southwestern region of U.S. for viewers, while those in the northwestern and central region will be clouds and more difficult to view. Find a area away from bright lights and open field for best observation.  Don't worry if your miss the amazing showers, there is still November and December when you can view Leonids and Geminds.

Keep those dates on the calendar and bundle up as you watch the light show above.  Find a dark site and plan ahead for more stargazing.
